Actually, I found a somewhat simple way to get to this kind of thing. All you need to do is make the image/text/etc (such as the Cowboy) in Lite Mode and add in the Hand Draw entry for the duration you are interested in. Once you're happy with that, you can go into Expert mode, convert the Cowboy into Expert mode (just click on it in Expert mode and it will give you the option to convert), this turns the single Cowboy layer into four layers, including the Hand, a mask, a Cowboy clone, and the Cowboy itself. The Hand, mask, and clone make up the parts that are used in the entry animation but the Cowboy itself is on its own layer and only appears upon completion of the entry animation. This means you can do whatever you want to the Cowboy (such as walk to the center of the screen and stop) without changing the entry animation.
You also now have free control of the Hand to follow any motion path you wish and you can see how the masks are working to potentially do the same with whatever other things you'd like to draw in.
